First, the color spectrum is completely different. Fluorescent lights typically use three-color narrow-band phosphors, red, green, and blue, with very obvious spikes in the emission spectra at each. It used to be that people would use a statement chandelier or pendant to draw people into a space. While this can be effective, it does create a small island of light within a larger area.
